Application Decision Information

It is very important that you receive communications from CTECS through the Enrollment system. On February 15 and April 15, we will be sending out notifications, initial notices and waitlist notifications. If you receive an initial notice, you must respond to move forward in the application process or you will lose your seat. Please check your spam or junk folder to track down this communication.

  • 1st Round decisions will be emailed February 15 (Priority applicants only-applications submitted November 1 – December 15, 2023).
  • 2nd Round decisions will be emailed April 15 (Applications submitted November 1 – February 28, 2023).
  • Applications received after February 28 will be reviewed only as needed to fill open seats.  
  • All applications will be purged October 1. We admit students until October 1 of their 10th grade year. If your child is not enrolled before October 1 and you are still interested in a CTECS school, you must complete a new application after November 1.

Thank you for your interest in the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS)!

CTECS is very different from traditional high schools. We recommend students genuinely be interested in earning a technical education, learning a trade, and have a deep understanding of the rigor and demands of a CTECS education, including: 

  • A 182-day academic curriculum being taught in 91 days each year. 
  • The number of hours required to learn trade skills (both during school hours, after school, and beyond graduation in some instances). 
  • Requirements of earning credentials, certifications, and licensure for specific trades. 

We recommend that you examine the CTECS website to understand some of the details of successfully earning a trade certification in conjunction with an academic high school diploma, which is offered to students who choose to attend a technical high school.

  • Current 8th-grade students for enrollment in the 2023-2024 school year
  • Current 9th-grade students for enrollment in the 2022-2023 school year (beginning in January 2023)
  • Current 9th-grade students for enrollment in 2023-2024 school year (September 2023 only)

1. Let your school counselor (if none, another school official) know you are going to apply.  

  • They will receive an email from the CTECS school district requesting information.
  • You will need their correct email address to enter into the application.

2. Review the website of the school you want to apply for.

  • Confirm you are in their catchment area and are eligible for free bus transportation to the CTECS school.  You will find a map on the school’s website “about” page.

3. Review the trade(s) you are interested in and learn about them, including course descriptions and prospective jobs.  Be sure the trade you are interested in is offered at the school you are applying to by reviewing the school’s website under “programs”.

4. Work hard and do your best in school this year!

In Mid-February, you will receive an “Initial Notice” email or a “Waitlist” email and have 10 days to respond, indicating whether or not you are interested in continuing in the admissions process to attend a technical high school.

If you respond yes to the Initial Notice survey request, educational records will be requested from your sending school and reviewed.  If you are homeschooled, other documentation is required.  If more information or meetings are required, you will be notified.

May 2023 – Freshmen Orientation events are held for students who are in the admissions process for a CTECS high school.
