A Message from the Principal

August 10, 2021

9 August 2021

 Dear Wolcott Tech Family,

Welcome to all new and returning Wolcott Tech families for the 2021-22 school year.  First, I want to thank all members of the Wolcott Tech community for their cooperation, understanding and patience last year.  Under extremely difficult circumstances, we were able to maximize student time in trade areas, get all of our seniors to graduate,  provide assistance to students to meet academic requirements, and even offer (almost) full seasons in all permitted athletic events – everyone from students to staff to families should share the credit for a job well-done.  However, we again find ourselves beginning a school year in the middle of a pandemic.    I understand you may have questions about the start of the school year and our COVID protocols. Please bear with us as we anticipate receiving further guidance from the State Department of Education early next week. As soon as we have more information, we will share it with you. In the meantime, below is some need-to-know information for the start of the school year.

Our school year begins on Monday, August 30th for grades 9 – 11.  Senior mentors will be in school that day to assist with freshman orientation.  All other seniors will report to school on Tuesday, August 31st.  Our school day begins at 7:15 and ends at 2:00.  Grades 9 and 12 will begin in academics and grades 10 and 11 will report to their trade/technology areas for the first cycle.  Students should be in the appropriate uniform when they report.  For uniform info visit https://wolcott.cttech.org/parents-students/uniforms     Questions on bus transportation should be directed to your local school district.  More detailed information for grade 9 students will be sent out next week.

Please review the summer reading program at our website at https://wolcott.cttech.org/   Note that incoming grade 9 students have a slightly different requirement than other grades.  Every grade 9 student will be issued a Chromebook.  Additional information on the use of Chromebooks and other digital tools will follow.  Any school supplies needed for particular classes will be shared by teachers once school starts.

Please make sure you use the PowerSchool parent portal to keep your contact information up to date.  Grade 9 parents will be mailed their individual passwords when school starts.  The portal, which will open later this month, can be accessed at cttech.org/parents-students/powerschool.html.    All students will be eligible for a free lunch and breakfast this year.

This will not be the only communication regarding the upcoming school year.  We will be sending out information at least weekly, if not more, until the start of school.  All communication from the school will be e-mailed to families and students and posted on the school’s website.

Sincerely,

Richard C. Shellman
